UAE Degree Attestation from India: Steps, Documents and Fees (2026)

You have a UAE job offer, the employer asks for an attested degree, and suddenly there are three different instructions in your inbox: get it verified by the university, get it stamped in India, and apply through UAE MoFA. Which step comes first? If your qualification was issued in India, the answer depends on where the document was issued, what the employer actually needs, and which attestation route you use.
Quick answer: For an Indian-issued degree intended for use in the UAE, start by confirming the employer’s exact document requirement. The UAE Embassy in New Delhi says India-issued documents must first be attested by India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) before its digital attestation service. The UAE mission’s process can then provide attestation by the mission and UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA). Degree recognition, when required for a particular job or purpose, is a separate question.

Do you need degree certificate attestation for a UAE job?
Not every job or visa situation has the same educational-document requirement. Some employers need proof of a qualification for a job classification or professional process; regulated occupations may involve additional licensing or qualification checks. Before paying for any service, ask HR which document is required: the final degree, a diploma, marksheets or transcript, or a separate recognition outcome.
Attestation establishes a chain of authentication for a document. It does not by itself guarantee that an employer, regulator or UAE education authority will accept a qualification as meeting the criteria for a particular occupation.
The India-to-UAE attestation process, step by step
1. Check the original document and the employer’s request
Confirm the exact name of the university or board, your name as printed, the award date, and whether HR wants the degree certificate, transcript or both. UAE MoFA says certificates and transcripts can be treated as separate documents. Its general guidance also says documents must not be laminated, and must be in English or Arabic or accompanied by an official translation.
2. Arrange the required authentication in India
India’s Ministry of External Affairs attestation guidance explains the routes for attestation and apostille, including preliminary authentication where applicable. For documents outside the e-Sanad system, it describes regional authentication and submission through designated outsourced service providers. The MEA says it does not directly accept individual walk-in submissions for these services. Follow its current list of authorised providers rather than a random agent’s claim.
If your document is available through an eligible digital repository, ask whether e-Sanad can handle the relevant verification or attestation. Not every document is covered; do not assume a scanned PDF qualifies.
3. Apply through the appropriate UAE mission route
The UAE Embassy in New Delhi describes a digital attestation route for India-issued documents already attested by the MEA. Applicants use the UAE MoFA attestation service, select the issuing country, complete the application and payment, and arrange collection of the original through an approved service provider. The mission says one application can cover both its attestation and UAE MoFA attestation.
The UAE Consulate in Mumbai also describes a digital attestation service. Follow the location and issuing-country selections shown in the live portal; the two mission pages describe those selections differently. Do not send originals to an unverified courier or service provider.
4. Check the completed attestation
Keep the reference number and the digitally attested file. The UAE mission pages describe an online verification option for completed attestations. Check that the document holder, qualification and attestation details are correct, then share the verified result with your employer through a secure channel.
Attestation, apostille and degree recognition: what’s the difference?
| Term | What it addresses | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| MEA attestation | Authentication of an India-issued document for use abroad | Does not certify the academic content or guarantee job eligibility |
| Apostille | Treaty-based certification for participating jurisdictions | Do not assume it replaces the UAE mission’s required procedure |
| UAE MoFA attestation | Authentication for use through UAE official channels | Not the same as professional licensing |
| Qualification recognition | Assessment of a foreign qualification under UAE education rules | Separate service where required; criteria depend on the qualification |
The Indian MEA distinguishes apostille from normal attestation according to the destination country’s acceptance of the Hague Apostille Convention. For a UAE employment document, follow the current UAE mission instructions rather than purchasing an apostille simply because an agent calls it ‘international attestation’.
For some purposes, UAE authorities may also require recognition of a foreign university qualification. The UAE Ministry of Education introduced a University Certificates Recognition system for degrees issued outside the country, with later updates to the process. Recognition is not automatically completed by document attestation; ask your employer or relevant professional regulator whether it applies.
What documents should you prepare?
- Original degree or diploma: Confirm the issuing institution and certificate details.
- Academic transcript or marksheets: Prepare these if the employer or authority specifically requests them; they may count as separate documents.
- Identity document: Keep the identity proof requested by the official application and courier process.
- MEA or state-level authentication record: Follow the sequence required for your document and route.
- Employer’s written requirements: Save the message stating exactly which document and attestation are needed.
- Reference and payment receipts: Keep a copy for tracking and any correction request.
How much does UAE degree attestation cost?
There is no reliable single all-inclusive price for every Indian applicant. The total can involve Indian-side authentication or service-provider charges, UAE mission/MoFA fees, courier charges, translation and separate document fees. The UAE MoFA FAQ lists fees for individual-affairs documents, while the Indian MEA lists its attestation and outsourced handling charges. Check the final amount displayed in the official application rather than relying on an advertised ‘package’ price.
Ask for a line-item quotation if using a service provider. An attestation service should not be presented as a guarantee of a UAE job, visa, licence or qualification-recognition decision.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Attesting the wrong document: Confirm whether the employer wants the degree, diploma, transcript or another record.
- Skipping the Indian authentication stage: The UAE mission describes prerequisite MEA attestation for India-issued documents.
- Confusing recognition with attestation: Regulated professions or specific employers may require separate checks.
- Submitting laminated or unreadable documents: Check MoFA’s document-condition rules first.
- Using an unverified intermediary: Apply through official channels or listed authorised providers and keep receipts.
- Assuming a fixed turnaround time: Verification, document pickup and corrections can affect timing.
Frequently asked questions
Can I attest my Indian degree while already living in Dubai?
Potentially, yes. The Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi publishes guidance on attestation of Indian educational documents in the UAE. Its process and the UAE mission’s India-based digital route are not identical, so confirm which route is appropriate for your document and location.
Is an apostille enough for a UAE job?
Do not assume so. Check the UAE authority or mission instructions for the particular document. The Indian MEA’s apostille guidance and the UAE mission’s attestation requirements address different questions.
Can I use a provisional certificate instead of a degree?
Only if the requesting employer or authority accepts it. The UAE mission lists various educational document types, but listing a document for attestation does not guarantee it meets an employer’s qualification requirement.
Will attestation guarantee my work visa?
No. Attestation is one documentation step. Employment approval, immigration permission and any profession-specific authorisation are separate decisions.
What to do before paying
Send your HR contact a short checklist: Which qualification must be attested? Is MEA plus UAE MoFA attestation sufficient? Is separate degree recognition required? Is a transcript needed? Which date is the document required? Once those points are clear, follow the official government process and keep your originals secure.
