Oman Work Visa Status Check: ROP eVisa Tracking for Indian Workers

You have accepted a job offer in Oman, sent your passport copy to the recruiter, and now hear that your visa is “under process.” What can you actually check? The useful starting point is the Royal Oman Police (ROP) eVisa application tracker. It can help you follow a submitted application, but it cannot replace checking the employer, your contract, or the type of permission being arranged.

This guide is for Indian job seekers and other overseas applicants waiting for an Oman employment visa. It explains what the official tracker asks for, which parts of the process belong to the employer, and what to do before booking a flight.

Quick answer: how do I check an Oman work visa application?

Open the official ROP eVisa Track Your Application page. The public form asks for a visa application number, travel document number, document nationality, and a text-verification code. Enter the details exactly as submitted and follow the on-screen instructions. The ROP site also says registered users can log in and use “Find Visa Application.”

If your employer or agent submitted the file, ask them for the correct application reference and a copy of the application acknowledgement. Do not guess the reference or assume a recruiter’s screenshot is proof that a visa has been issued. The official tracker may not show every internal stage of an employer’s labour-permit process.

First, understand who applies for the Oman work visa

Oman’s government work-visa service says the visa is issued at an employer’s request and under that employer’s responsibility. For ordinary private-sector employment, the employer needs the relevant Ministry of Labour permission before the ROP work-visa stage. This is not the same as an applicant independently purchasing a tourist eVisa.

In practical terms, a candidate may have a genuine offer while the employer is still working on its labour permission. That does not mean the ROP has already received an individual visa application. Ask which stage the file has reached: employer approval, work permit, ROP application submission, or visa issuance.

Step-by-step: use the official ROP application tracker

  1. Go to evisa.rop.gov.om/en/track-your-application. Check the website address carefully before entering passport details.
  2. Find the visa application number on the employer’s or authorised representative’s application acknowledgement. An offer-letter number is not necessarily a visa application number.
  3. Enter your travel document number exactly as it appears on your passport and select the issuing nationality.
  4. Complete the text-verification field shown on the page and submit the search.
  5. Read the result as an application-status response, not a guarantee of entry, employment conditions, or the employer’s legitimacy. If the result is unclear, ask the submitting sponsor to check the case through their own ROP account.

The public tracking page was accessible during this review, but a real application cannot be tested without the applicant’s reference and passport details. We did not submit any personal information.

What if the tracker shows no result?

A blank or unsuccessful search does not automatically prove a scam. There are several ordinary explanations: the employer has not yet submitted the ROP visa application; the application number is wrong; the passport number or nationality was entered differently; or the portal has a temporary problem.

Ask the employer for the submission date, application reference, and the exact name of the sponsoring entity. If the employer says the file is still with the Ministry of Labour, the ROP tracker may not be the right place to look yet. Avoid paying someone simply to “unlock” a status result.

Documents to prepare for an Oman employment visa

The Oman government service page lists a passport copy, personal photograph, work-permit copy and medical-examination copy. The ROP work-visa guidance adds detail, including a passport valid for at least six months and additional approvals for certain regulated occupations.

  • Passport: Check spelling, passport number, date of birth and validity before the employer submits the application.
  • Employment offer and contract: Keep copies showing the employer’s legal name, role, salary, allowances, work location and joining arrangements.
  • Work-permit details: Ask the employer to confirm that the occupation on the labour permission matches the occupation on the visa application.
  • Medical documentation: ROP lists India among the nationalities for which a medical certificate is required, subject to the applicable official process and attestation.
  • Professional approvals: Some occupations, including certain medical, teaching and engineering roles, may need additional clearances.

Oman work visa fee: what is officially listed?

The Oman government service page, last marked updated on 5 August 2025, lists a 20 Omani rial fee for issuing a work visa. This is the stated government visa-issuance fee, not a complete estimate of medical examinations, employer labour permissions, document services, or other possible costs. Rules and fees can change; check the live official page before relying on any amount.

A recruiter who quotes one large all-inclusive amount should explain each component and provide documentation. Do not treat an agency’s private service charge as an official ROP fee. Be particularly cautious about payment requests made before you can identify the employer and the visa route.

Check these details before you travel

  1. Visa category: Confirm that the permission is for the work you have accepted, not merely a visit or tourism purpose.
  2. Employer name: Compare the sponsoring employer with the offer and contract. Ask for an explanation if a different entity appears.
  3. Job title: The official Oman service says the profession on the work permit must match the profession on the visa application.
  4. Personal details: Check your passport number, full name and nationality against the issued document.
  5. Employment terms: Confirm the basic salary, allowances, working hours, accommodation, transport, and deductions in writing.
  6. Departure requirements in India: Check whether your passport is ECR and whether emigration clearance is required for your employment journey.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs guidance lists Oman among countries where an ECR-endorsed passport holder travelling for employment generally needs emigration clearance. The rule depends on passport status and travel purpose. The visa tracker itself does not complete Indian emigration clearance.

How to check whether the recruiter is genuine

A real-looking visa PDF is not a substitute for checking the recruiter. If an Indian recruiting agent is involved, ask for the agency’s registration details and independently verify them using the Indian government’s official channels. Ask who the actual Oman employer is, not just the person sending WhatsApp updates.

Our separate guide explains how to verify a Gulf recruitment agent in India. You can also use the Gulf employment contract breakdown to compare the written salary package with what was promised during the interview.

Keep your own copies of documents and receipts. Never send a passport scan, OTP or bank details to an unverified person merely because they claim to be from immigration. Official sites should be opened directly rather than through an unfamiliar shortened link.

Can the ROP tracker verify that a job offer is real?

No. It helps check information about an application in the ROP eVisa system. It does not independently verify the quality of the employer, confirm every clause of a contract, or tell you whether a recruiter has complied with Indian recruitment requirements. Use it as one check in a broader verification process.

Frequently asked questions

Can I check my Oman work visa using only my passport number?

The official public ROP tracking form also asks for a visa application number, document nationality and text verification. If you have only your passport number, ask the sponsor for the application reference.

Can I apply for an Oman work visa myself?

The standard employer-sponsored work-visa route is initiated by the employer under the applicable labour permission. The ROP eVisa portal includes sponsor or authorised representative access. Do not confuse this with a self-applied tourist visa.

How long does an Oman work visa take?

The official pages consulted here describe application submission, review and issuance, but they do not establish a guaranteed end-to-end timeline for every employment case. Ask the employer which stage is pending and avoid buying a non-refundable flight based only on an estimate.

Is a work visa the same as a work permit?

No. In the normal employer-sponsored process, the Ministry of Labour permission and the ROP immigration visa are different parts of the process. The employer’s statement that a work permit is approved does not necessarily mean the individual visa has been issued.

What if the job title on the visa is different from my offer?

Ask the employer to resolve the mismatch with the responsible authority before travel. Oman’s official work-visa service explicitly requires the profession on the work permit and visa application to match.

Do Indian workers need a medical certificate?

ROP work-visa guidance includes Indian nationals among those for whom a medical certificate is required. The precise approved process and attestation instructions should be confirmed for the applicant’s case.

The practical takeaway

For an Oman job applicant, the safest sequence is straightforward: verify the employer and contract, understand whether the labour permission has been approved, obtain the ROP visa application reference, check the official tracker, and confirm Indian departure requirements before travelling. An application status is useful evidence about a file; it is not the whole recruitment story.
